How Much Does a Seedbox Cost? The Price Is Set by Three Choices

From 153 orderable plans: about $15 a month for 2 TB, $20 for 4 TB. NVMe costs four times hard drives per terabyte, unmetered traffic 60% more.

How Much Does a Seedbox Cost? The Price Is Set by Three Choices

A seedbox costs between $2 and $500 a month. That range is useless on its own, and it is what most pricing pages leave you with. The useful version is narrower: for a library of a given size, on a given kind of disk, with a given traffic policy, the price falls into a band of a few dollars. Three choices set that band, and they matter far more than the brand you pick.

We worked from the 166 plans of 19 providers in SeedboxCompare's price check of 1 November 2026, kept the 153 that could actually be ordered that day, and converted everything to US dollars at the ECB rate of 30 October 2026 (€1 = $1.1172, £1 = $1.3399). All prices are monthly.

What a seedbox costs, by library size

This is the table to read first. It covers shared seedboxes on hard drives, which is what most people buy.

Disk you needCheapestTypical (median)Upper quarter
Up to 1 TB$3.00$11.14$18.00
1 to 2 TB$5.59$15.69$20.00
2 to 4 TB$7.82$20.58$31.11
4 to 8 TB$12.57$35.70$45.75
8 TB and more$22.62$55.80$71.50

So a 2 TB seedbox costs about $15 a month, a 4 TB one about $20, and the cheapest plans in every band cost less than half the median. The rest of this guide explains where that gap comes from.

Choice one: the disk

The type of storage moves the price per terabyte by a factor of four.

StoragePlansCheapest $/TBMedian $/TB
Hard drives (HDD)1212.336.78
SATA SSD157.0413.41
NVMe1715.8626.06

NVMe exists for a reason: many simultaneous torrents and several Plex streams read from the disk at once, and a hard drive shared with other customers is where that load stalls. But NVMe plans are small — Whatbox's starts at 950 GB for €28, Ultra.cc's at 950 GB for €17.95 — and a library does not fit on them. If you are storing, buy hard drives. If you are seeding a few hundred active torrents, the extra $20 per terabyte buys you the thing you actually lack.

Choice two: metered or unmetered traffic

This is the choice most buyers do not notice they are making. Among shared hard-drive plans:

TrafficPlansMedian $/TB
Upload quota (e.g. 10 TB a month)696.14
Unmetered4310.00

Unmetered costs about 60% more per terabyte of disk. The quota plans are cheaper because most customers never reach their cap. Whether you will is easy to estimate: multiply your library by how often it turns over, then by the ratio you seed to. A 4 TB library that changes twice a month, seeded to a ratio of one, needs about 8 TB of upload. On a 10 TB quota that leaves little margin; on an unmetered plan from DediSeedbox, RapidSeedbox's Lean range, Appbox or Feral Hosting, it does not matter.

The unmetered side has its bargains too. Appbox sells 3 TB unmetered for €10.99, about $4.09 per terabyte — cheaper than the median quota plan. DediSeedbox's 5 TB Pro plan is $30, or $6 per terabyte, unmetered on a 10 Gbps port.

Choice three: shared or dedicated

A shared seedbox gives you an account on a server with other customers. A dedicated one gives you the whole machine, or a VPS with root access. You would expect the second to cost more per terabyte, and at the small end it does: RapidSeedbox's Premium plans run $13 to $16 per terabyte, against $7.50 to $10 for its shared Lean plans.

At the large end, the logic flips. Hosting By Design's 18 TB to 28 TB boxes are dedicated, unmetered, and cost $2.33 to $2.48 per terabyte, among the lowest figures in the whole data set. Appbox's 36 TB dedicated box is about $3.17 per terabyte. Past roughly 15 TB, a dedicated machine is not a premium product; it is the bulk price.

The entry plan is a doorway, not a deal

The cheapest plan of each provider costs a median of $9.76 a month. Those entry plans are where the per-terabyte price is at its worst: iSeedFast's $3 plan holds 50 GB, which is $60 per terabyte, and EvoSeedbox's $5 plan holds 150 GB, $33 per terabyte. Providers use the smallest tier to get you in, knowing you will outgrow it. Our guide to the cheapest seedbox goes through the entry tier provider by provider.

Two things in the fine print change the number you will actually pay. Some prices are listed before VAT: Hosting By Design's are, so add your country's rate before comparing. And some plans are listed but cannot be bought: 13 of the 166 plans were sold out on the day of the check, most of them at GigaRapid.

A quick way to set your budget

  1. Size the library you will have in a year, not the one you have today.
  2. Pick hard drives unless you know you are disk-bound.
  3. Estimate your monthly upload; if it is more than half the quota, buy unmetered.
  4. Read the median for your size in the first table. Anything well below it is worth a look; anything well above should give you a reason — a location, NVMe, root access.

For a 4 TB library on hard drives with a quota, that lands you around $15 to $20 a month: Ultra.cc Tin (€13.95), Whatbox H3-4 (€14) or GigaRapid Gold G10 (€16.95). Unmetered, around $20 to $30: Appbox NG-4500 (€18.51 for 4.5 TB) or DediSeedbox Pro ($30 for 5 TB). The full table with every plan sorted by price per terabyte is on SeedboxCompare's seedbox price per TB guide; if you are weighing a seedbox against renting a server yourself, see seedbox vs VPS.

Prices come from SeedboxCompare's monthly price check of 1 November 2026 and will drift. Currency conversions use the ECB reference rate of 30 October 2026.
