- What uplink speed do I actually get on a shared seedbox?
- The advertised figure is the capacity of the host port, not a per-slot guarantee. It tells you the ceiling you can occasionally reach and how much headroom exists when neighbours are idle. Treat it as a comparative signal between providers rather than a throughput promise.
- Is unmetered bandwidth really unmetered?
- There is no counter, but every unmetered plan sits behind a fair-use policy. Sustained saturation gets throttled or reviewed. The practical difference against a metered plan is that you are not tracking a quota, not that the capacity is infinite.
- Does NVMe matter on a seedbox?
- Less than on a database server. Torrent workloads are throughput-bound rather than IOPS-bound. Where NVMe helps is as a cache layer in front of bulk disk, absorbing active transfers so the spinning storage handles sequential reads. Ultra.cc, Whatbox and Cloudboxes.io all use this design.
- Why is almost everything hosted in the Netherlands?
- Dutch datacentres combine dense European peering, competitive transit pricing and a well-established regulatory framework for hosting operators. That combination is why the market concentrated there. Providers offering Canada, Singapore, the USA, the UK or Germany are the exception, not the rule.
